Book #2

Well, my second book, at least. The book may also be a big number two, but I will leave that up to each individual reader to decide.

The title More of the Same is largely truth in advertising, except it is also a bit different this time around. It has new categories of films, such as ones that live down to their poor reputations. Another focuses on movies which prominent cats.

Each chapter opens with a relevant essay, and these introductions offer a curiously personal glimpse inside the life of somebody who writes pseudonymously. One essay details winning a video contest for Brian Wilson (of The Beach Boys) and the whirlwind experience of being as close to fame as I ever hope to achieve (meaning, still not even within eyeshot of it). Another intro concerns washing an elephant, and that anecdote doesn’t involve Brian Wilson.

But the bulk of the text is, like the first installment, a compendium of analytical pieces on various movies that are old, obscure and/or unloved. I always try to provide an angle on a picture which I have not encountered previously. Failing that, I try to be funny. And, failing that, the book is large enough to be convenient for squishing troublesome insects.

I am trying to get this in more retailers but, for now, the only vendor is the small mom and pop firm Amazon.com. I just hope they will make a success of their homespun venture.
